John A. Brandt, 62, of Chenoa, died at 9:28 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 6, 2015) at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chenoa, with the Rev. Jeremy Latzke officiating. Burial will follow in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa, and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Chenoa Fourth of July Committee or OSF Saint Francis Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, Peoria.

John was born Dec. 24, 1952, in Fairbury, the son of Russell V. and Betty L. Leetch Brandt Sr. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Rhoda, on Sept. 1, 1973, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chenoa. Diane survives in Chenoa.

Other survivors include his children, Angie Brandt, Chenoa, and Mike (Sarah) Brandt, Bloomington; two precious granddaughters, Hadley and Haven Brandt; two sisters, Judy (Leon) Gibson, LeRoy, and Janis Piercy, Normal; one brother, Russell V. “Jack” (Bobbi) Brandt Jr., San Angelo, Texas; and his father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Elaine Rhoda, Chenoa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joy Brandt; and one sister-in-law, Karen Augspurger.

John was a licensed plumber for the state of Illinois and belonged to Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 99 in Bloomington. In retirement he enjoyed playing farmer, hauling grain for the Seeman family in Chenoa. He loved camping, Fourth of July celebration and cooking.

John never knew a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in their time of need. His spirit of giving was carried out until the very end, helping others with the gift of life carried out by the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network.
