Robert Beattie ACHESON, who was summoned to the world beyond by the angel of
death on the fifteenth of this month at his home in Footville, was born April 27, 1841, in Orange county, New York. At the age of 19, on February 22, 1861, he came westward, settling in Magnolia. In March, 1866, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma C. CARPER and two children were born to them. Christena and William E. The latter died August 31, 1876, and the mother soon followed, passing away September 27 of the same year. Mr. ACHESON was married on July 3, 1879, his bride being Miss Julia E. PIERCE. She preceded him in death, succumbing February 5, 1901.
Mr. ACHESON was the secondn of a family of ten children, three of whom have
died in the past eleven months. Theodore L. having died February 13, 1905, Hannah J. HARPER Dec. 28, 1905, and Robert B. Jan. 15, 1906.
There are left to his demise his only daughter, Mrs. F. W. SNYDER (formerly
Christena ACHESON), her husband Fred and daughter Crystal E., of Footville, Wis., his foster son Theodore DAVIS and family of Woodstock, Ill.; five brothers, David A. of Magnolia, Wis.; Alex. of Tacoma, Washington; Wm. E. of Footville, Wisc.; J. C. of Montrose, S. D.; Alfred of Hartman, S. D.; also two sisters, Mrs. Sarah COCHRANE of Janesville, Wis., and Mrs. A. HARPER of Magnolia, Wis.
Mr. ACHESON was brought up in the Presbyterian faith, became a member of the
church at Brodhead, Wis., when 25 years of age, and was an elder in that church for several years. He moved to Footville, Wis., in 1890 and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1891. While his voice was seldom heard in public service the influence of his Christian life was felt by all.
He was a kind, devoted father, and an honest, upright business man.
Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. A. M. Ivey at the home of his
family on Thursday, January 17.
