William Henry “Bill” Whetsell, 84, of Bruceton Mills, Centenary Community, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015, with family by his side.

The son of the late Charles Sumner and Ruby Belle Hoffman Whetsell, he was born September 18, 1930, in the Whetsell Settlement.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, graduated from Kingwood High School, and was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. In 1963 he started William H. Trucking, hauling coal. Bill worked as a correctional officer at the Kennedy Center, where he retired in 1988 after 20 years. After retiring he began working with Bruceton Community Ambulance Service as an EMT where he served his community for over 20 years. Most of all Bill was a farmer and farming was his life.

Bill is survived by a son and his wife, Mark and Vicky Whetsell of Albright; a daughter and her husband, Sandy and Brian Thomas of Morgantown; daughter-in-law, Jane Whetsell of Bruceton Mills; seven grandchildren: Ben Whetsell, Brandon Whetsell and fiancée Julie Davis, Jennifer Martin and husband Erik, Melissa Whetsell Hagedorn, Corissa Thomas and fiancé Alex Hastings, Chase Thomas and Cara Thomas; four great-grandchildren: Zackary, Zane, and McKenze Martin, and Riley Hagedorn; a brother and his wife, Bud and Arlene Whetsell; two sisters and their husbands, Pauline and Bud Parrack and Martha and Dale Childs; many nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Maxine Ringer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen Whetsell, April 26, 1998; his second wife, Thelma Wilt Whetsell, September 30, 2005; a son Randall “Randy” Whetsell, and two sisters, Susan Wilson and Jean Gerasimovich.

Family and friends will be received at the Centenary United Methodist Church, located on the Brandonville Pike, Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service with Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Centenary Cemetery.
