After walking 84 years in the way described by her life verse (Philippians 4:8), "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things," on Saturday evening, August 29, 2015, Adona Lou (Snyder) Rishel left her earthly home to spend eternity with the truest, most noble, most right, purest, loveliest, most admirable, excellent and praiseworthy One of all, her dear Savior, Jesus.

Born March 22, 1931, in the midst of the Great Depression to the late Mary (Mathias) and John Snyder, Adona was the baby of their seven children. She had five protective, loving big brothers, Glenn, Dean, Gerald and Jay Snyder who preceded her in death and Blaine Snyder who now "carries the torch" for the family as well as her dear sister, the late June (Snyder) Spangler.

Adona had a lifelong love of learning. She was the valedictorian of North York High School's class of 1949. During the celebration of VJ Day at the end of World War II, in downtown York, Adona met the love of her life, Bernard Rishel. The two were married on August 20, 1949 and they shared a blessed life raising their family, traveling the world, and serving the Lord together for nearly 50 years until Barney's death in 1998.

Adona and Barney lovingly modeled the Christian life for their son, Andy and his wife, Sherry Rishel; and their daughter, Libby and her husband, Christopher Lehr. "Grandma Donnie" lavished her love on her four grandchildren, Andy and Sherry's boys, Andrew and Evan Paul; and Libby and Chris' daughters, Grace (and her husband, Aaron) Derstine, and Katherine Lehr.

She served them as a babysitter, taxi driver, gourmet cook, chief sports fan, friend and confidant, and most importantly as a faithful prayer warrior.

Along with her family, Adona's many, many friends have been so blessed to enjoy her gifts of hospitality and love as they shared a good cup of coffee and some wonderful culinary delicacy in her charming little home. Oh how she will be missed!

Adona had a genuine love for everyone she met and she was always eager to share with them the Good News of her Savior's love for them. The family kindly requests no flowers or memorial contributions. The best gift you could give Adona would be to consider a relationship with Jesus. If you are able, please join the family for her funeral. A viewing will be held at her church home, Living Word Community Church, 2530 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, at 10 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Her pastors, Steven Almquist and Brian Rice will officiate. Adona's family will say "goodbye for now" as they lay her to rest beside her beloved Barney at Prospect Hill Cemetery during a private service.
