William Franklin Wharton was the son to Pleasant Goodloe Wharton and Mary Jane Bell.
He married Mary "Mamie" Smith Jan 15 1878.
Children by Mary Smith are William Goodloe and John Goodrich and an infant child. Mamie died during the birth of the infant and together they are buried at Friendship cemetery in Columbus ms
He then married Mary Jane Bell Feb 5 1884 in Lowndes Cty Ms.
Children for William and Mary Jane are Grover Cleveland,Ethel Lee, Robert Edgar, Naomi Frances, Annie Bertha, Lucille,Lura Mar and Selvin Taylor.
William was a carpenter and built the original First Freewill Baptist Church.
He also donated the church bell which is still at the existing church.
