A pall of sorrow was cast over the city Sunday by the announcement of the death of Gerrit Bennink, 75, who passed away at his home on Broadway street Sunday morning at 2:45 o'clock, after a confining illness of only two weeks with heart trouble. It had been known that Mr. Bennink was not well, but few were aware of the seriousness of his condition.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 12:45 at the home and 1:30 o'clock at the Third Reformed church. Owing to the illness of the pastor. Rev. G. Menning, the service was in charge of Rev. A. Haverkamp, pastor of the First Reformed church, using both the English and Holland language, while the service in English at the house was conducted by Rev. J. Prins, pastor of the Second Reformed church. Interment was in Oakwood.

Mr. Bennink was born on the Cole farm, one mile east, of Pella, Oct. 12, 1862, bad spent, the most of his life in this community. He was educated in the city schools.

On March 25, 1891, he was married to Miss Anna Vogelaar. They lived for 10 years on a farm north of Peoria and for the past 35 years they had made their home in Pella, 22 years in their present home.

To the above union were born four children, Gertrude, wife of G. W. Den Hartog, Otley, Nellie, the wife of G. M. Gosselink. Pella, Henry Bennink, New Sharon, and Tunis, who died on Aug. 10, 1920.

Besides the widow and children he leaves nine grandchildren, Winifred, Gerald and Eugene Den Hartog, Lorna, Mildred and Sarah Ann Gosselink, Angeline, Donald and Clarence Bennink; four brothers, Albert, David, Doris and John Bennink, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Vander Heuvel and Mrs. Dan Kloosterman.

At the age of 16 years Mr. Bennink made a confession and soon afterward united with the Third Reformed church, of which he was a life-long member, regular in attendance at its service, and active for 25 years as a member of the consistory and a Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Bennink was a man of high character and principle and could always be found on the right side of every moral question. He always had an influence for good and will be greatly missed in his home, church and community. The editor of the Chronicle feels a
keen personal loss in his going.

A loved one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled,
The boon his love has given;
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven.
