California Highway Patrolman. A native of Washington, Officer Clearman was a twelve-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Leaving the Marines as a Staff Sergeant in 2003, he pursued a new career with the California Highway Patrol. He was in his second year with the CHP when on the night of August 5, 2006; Officer Clearman was investigating an accident on an Interstate 880 onramp in Oakland, California when he was struck by a vehicle, which immediately fled the scene of the incident. Officer Clearman was taken to a nearby hospital where he passed away from his injuries the next morning at the age of 33.
