Ellie Mae Williams was born October 1, 1896, in Searcy County, Arkansas, daughter of Joseph Marshall Williams and Minnie Elsie Freeman. In 1900, Ellie lived with her parents and siblings on a farm in Hunt County, Texas. Their household consisted of her older brother Calvin, age 10; Wilson, age 8; her sisters, Omie, age 7, and Ellie, age 5; and her brother Floyd, age 1. Before 1908, the family moved to Rains County, Texas where her father was renting a farm. They had two more children, Dolly (1906-1908) and an infant who was born and died January 19, 1909. Ellie's mother died the day after the baby. At that point, her sisters Anna, Evie, and Minnie were still in the household, as were her brothers, Wilson, Floyd, and Spencer. Her brother, Calvin, had left the household, had married Oca Mae Kees and moved to Red River, Arkansas (Searcy County). In 1918, Ellie married Ed Burton, who was born September 15, 1896, in Frost, Texas (Navarro County), son of William J. and Amelia E. Burton. In 1920, they were living in Eason, Oklahoma (Pottawatomie County) where they were farming. By 1930, they had moved to Depew, Oklahoma (Creek County) where Ed was working as an engineer at a gasoline plant. Ed died on March 21, 1971, and was buried in the Wanette Cemetery. Ellie died on March 16, 1979, and was buried beside her husband.
