He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1948 and later earned his master's degree and doctorate from Harvard University.
Dr. Colver wrote a critical edition of David Hume's "Natural History of Religion" for Oxford University Press and he also co-edited two essays, "Science and Society" in 1966, and "Composition and Research: Problems in Evolutionary Theory" in 1963.
He was a member of the American Philosophical Association and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Colver was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two sons, Clint of Los Angeles and Chris of Fresno; a half-brother, Arthur of Texas; and a granddaughter.
