On June 6, 1826, Dr. Dering married Miss Frances Huntington, daughter of Hon. Henry Huntington, in Rome, New York. She died in 1841, and in 1847 he married Miss Sarah H. Strong, daughter of Benjamin Strong, Esq., of New York. Dr. Dering died after a long illness, at his home in Utica, New York, on December 19, 1867. He was survived by his wife, four daughters, and one son.
Children listed in census records are Anne H, Sarah S, Catherine M, Frances H, and Sylvester Dering.
