Born in Blue Ridge, Virginia, he was a son of the late Harvey D. and Mary L. (Walker) Swortzel.
Charlie was a safety supervisor at Davol Manufacturing Company for many years before retiring. He also worked at the former Gorham Manufacturing for several years.
An avid hunter, Charlie enjoyed exploring the woods of Maine seeking big-game moose, bear and other wildlife. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yellowstone.
In addition to his companion Beverly, he leaves a daughter, Rosemary F. Losty and her husband Robert; a brother, James Swortzel; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and Beverly’s children, Maria D’Alessandro, Esq. and Frank D’Alessandro, M.D. He was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Ernest, Harry and Robert Swortzel, Louise France, Mary Jane Wade and Helen Webber.
The funeral service was Frida in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, Warwick. Burial followed in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, Massachusetts, 01701 in his memory will be appreciated.
