Dr. Phillip L. Accardo, DO, FACOFP, 83, of Lee's Summit, MO, went to be with his mother, father, and son, Phillip, in heaven on Aug. 27, 2015.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept 4, from 5-7 p.m., at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church, 4725 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit, MO 64064. Funeral service will follow promptly at 7:15 p.m. Private burial at Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to BackSnack at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church.

Phillip was born on Dec. 30, 1931, in Cheyenne, WY. He graduated from Glennon High School in 1949 and Rockhurst University in 1953. From 1953-1955 he served in the US Army in Medical Field Service School. In 1959 he attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received his Doctorate of Osteopathy. He had a private family practice in Independence from 1960-1999 and Locum Tenens from 2000-present. He was a member of Harvard Resource-Based Relative Value Scale (RBRVS) Study for Osteopathic Medicine and a Technical Expert Panel (Appointment July 1991). In January 2008 and 2009 he went on a medical mission trip to Rural Falmouth, Jamaica. From 2005-2011 he was a volunteer physician at the Jackson County Free Health Clinic. He was a great man with lots of wisdom. He was loved by all. He had many friends, colleagues, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He hung on for every significant event that was scheduled for this year. Including the birth of his fifth great-grandchild, the graduation of three grandkids from college, one with a bachelors, one with a masters, and one with a doctorate in pharmacy. He was a family practice physician for 40 years in Independence. He was not only just a physician he was a great, hard working, caring physician. He was also involved in Osteopathic politics for many years and although that took a lot of time away from his family, he made an impact on growing Osteopathy nationwide. He will be an everlasting memory for all of his children, grandchildren, and Glenda Accardo, his wife for 39 years. Phillip Accardo you will be missed by many but never forgotten.
