He was a member of the Montevideo High School Class of 1969 and attended Concord University on a football scholarship. He excelled in high school and college sports and played for 13 years with the Rockingham County Baseball League. Mike also coached his son’s Little League baseball and pee wee football teams for the parks and recreation department. Mike was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Harrisonburg Elks Lodge No. 450. Mr. Armentrout was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Mike was a loving father of three children: two sons, Christopher Michael Armentrout and wife, Amber (Jeffries), of Charlotte, N.C., and Jared Wayne Armentrout and wife, Sheena (Sours), of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Stephanie Armentrout Dodson and husband, Jody, of Timberville; his former wife, Deborah Armentrout; one brother, Douglas Armentrout of Harrisonburg; and two sisters, Debra Johnston and husband, David, of Charles Town, W.Va., and Kathy Armentrout and Ken Surber of Harrisonburg.
Pastor Jimmy Kite will conduct a graveside service Thursday at 11 a.m. at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. The body will be cremated.
