Golden, Ill., Aug. 30.—In the death of Luebee Ulfers Albers this community loses not only one of her oldest citizens but one whose early life was closely allied with the earliest history of Golden. Mr. Albers was born in East Friesland, Germany in 1837, and was the only child of his parents. With his parents he left Germany in 1857 and came directly to this community. He was married the following year to Miss Ehe Aden, a sister of Mr. Heye Aden who lives near Golden. Mr. Albers engaged in farming for awhile in 1864 on the completion of the Wabash railroad, Mr. Albers was stationed here as agent of the company, and a station was established, known as Keokuk Junction Mr Albers was also made postmaster later, when a post office was located here. He was also the first man to engage in business here, starting a grocery store. He remained here until 1868 when he returned to Germany for a time. Upon his return to America he was made station agent at Basco. and remained there until 1874. In 1879 he went west and lived in a number of different states. In New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas he engaged in the commission business. In Nebraska and Arkansas he engaged in farming. He remained in the west until 1918 when he returned to make his home with his daughter here, Mrs. John Emminga, at whose home he died Saturday night. His death was due to old age.
Mr and Mrs. Albers had eleven children, seven of whom survive. Mrs Albers was laid to rest in Albuquerque, N. M. in January. 1904, but it is the intention of the children to remove her body to rest beside her husband Mr. Albers is survived by the following children. Dr. E L. Albers of Fraser, Col . Menherd and Heye of Albuqueraue, Jurgen L. of Nashville, Tenn , Luebbo of Los Angles, Cal. Mrs Flora Whiting of Paomia. Cal , and Mrs. Emminga of this place. Mr. Albers was a life-long member of the Lutheran church, and a man who commanded the respect of all who knew him. The funeral will be held at Immanuel Lutheran church here and burial at Hebron cemetery beside his father and children, but the date has not been fixed, owing to the long distance of the children from here.
