James Harvey Crowder
James Harvey Crowder, M.D., 84, Sullivan, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, May 18, 1987, at the Sullivan Convalescent Center.
He was born March 13, 1903, in Sullivan County to James Harvey and Maude Mosier Crowder, Sr. He graduated with honors from the University of Chicago and Rush Medical College in 1929. He practiced medicine for over 50 years. He was a member of the Sullivan First Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge 911, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the American Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons. He was a member of the Sullivan City School Board for 20 years. He was the last surviving founder of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Indiana. He was one of the founders and former board chairman of the Farmer's State Bank. He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Houpt Crowder, who died in 1972.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Crowder Cochran, Sullivan; and one granddaughter, Ann Victoria Turner, Bloomington.
Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sullivan First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Patterson officiating. A private burial will follow. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Tennis Funeral Home.
