Lee A. Windom, 74, passed away early Sunday morning when his long-awaited chariot took him home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He courageously and gracefully battled cancer for three years, and he passed away with his loving family at his side.

Lee “Butch” was born in Shedd to Clarence and Florence Windom, and was the youngest of eight children. He moved to Corvallis in 1943 and lived in the area all of his life. In 1958, he graduated from Corvallis High School, where he met Alberta Kauffman. They were married April 22, 1960, and celebrated 51 years of marriage, until the love of Lee’s life passed away in 2012.

They raised their family in the Corvallis area until they moved to Tangent in 1980. Lee was a loving and dedicated husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. His children, grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces enjoyed his playful spirit, and looked to him for his love and guidance.

He started his working career as a young teenager, delivering papers for the Gazette-Times, and during his high school years he was a typesetter for the Gazette-Times. In 1963 he started working in the hardboard division of Evans Products, where he held many positions, from production line work to becoming a millwright, and finally as a working production supervisor when he retired in 2003. Lee also was president of the local union for many years.

After retirement, Butch and Bert enjoyed cruises to the Western Caribbean and Hawaii. They enjoyed two extended trips with siblings, traveling around the United States, sightseeing and visiting family. In 2007, Lee, his son Doug and grandson Justin flew to the East Coast, where they attended baseball games at the original Yankee Stadium in New York City and Fenway Park in Boston, along with enjoying numerous historical sites in both cities.

Lee loved the family’s annual hunting trip to the Walker Rim area of Central Oregon. He also loved camping with family at the annual summer family reunions, coaching his son’s baseball teams, bowling leagues with friends, military history, building model trucks, and attending his grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

He is survived by his son Doug and wife Linda of Corvallis; son David of Albany; and daughter Dianna Hlavinka and husband Dale of Dallas. There are seven surviving grandchildren: Devin Hlavinka and wife Molly of Stayton; Heather Windom of San Jose, Calif.; Zach Hlavinka and wife Marrin of Sherwood; Kyle and Tanner Hlavinka of Dallas; and Justin and Katelyn Windom of Corvallis.

Also surviving are great-grandchildren Allie and Sabby Hlavinka of Stayton, and Mekenzie Hlavinka of Sherwood; brother Carl Windom of Corvallis; sisters Betty Reed of Albany, Jean Guiney of Madras and Dolly Rictor of Kent, Wash.; 63 nephews and nieces; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; granddaughter Mekenzie; both parents; brothers Doug and Loren; and sister Louise.
