Harlan - Darlene Ann Kimmen, daughter of Howard W. and Olga C. (Engel) Sorenson was born April 17, 1937 at Harlan. She attended the Harlan schools and was a Harlan High School graduate.
April 20, 1954 she married Kenneth Kimmen at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan. They lived in Harlan after their marriage. To this union two children were born, Cindy and Keith. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan, and was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Harlan. She died August 5, 1994 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs at age 57 years, 3 months and 19 days.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1976 and a brother, Dean Sorenson. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Harlan; her children; Cindy (Curt) Scheffler of Harlan; Keith (Denise) Kimmen of Harlan; her mother, Ollie Sorenson of Harlan; one brother, Daryl (Sandy) Sorenson of Denison; one sister, Diane (Joe) Stein of Harlan; three grandchildren and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August 8, 1994 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan with Rev. Larry Hoffmann celebrant and Rev. Mr. Pat Davitt assisting. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery with Lowell Hupp, Raymond Kimmen, Lawrence Kimmen, Michael Kimmen, Alvin Kimmen and Charles Jacobs casket bearers. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
