Russell J. Erbes of Reed City, Michigan, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee, Michigan. He was 78 years old. He was born March 5, 1937 in Richmond Township, Osceola County to Russell and Ann (Kailing) Erbes and attended St. Philip Neri Grade School and Reed City High School, graduating in 1955. Russell had lived in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area for 50 years, where he was an installer and manager for Michigan Bell Telephone, and had also worked at Holland Hospital for eight years. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Church in Reed City and enjoyed riding Honda Goldwing motorcycles. Russell married Sherry Churchill, who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters: Jan Marie (Dave) Guminski of Leesburg, FL., and Jamie Erbes of Byron Center; five sisters, Marie Taylor of Reed City, Elizabeth (Ronald) Kessler and Suzanne Erbes, Frances Postema of Coopersville, and Joann Erbes of Ann Arbor. Also surviving are five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Barbara Kingsbury, and one granddaughter. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at St. Philip Neri Church with Rev. Fr. Joe Fix officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. at McDowell Funeral Home. There will also be a time of visitation time from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
