LINDSAY — Vernon F. “Bud” Bender, 92, of Lindsay, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay with burial in Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a 7 p.m. rosary and scripture service at the church. Visitation will continue at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Bud was born Dec. 25, 1922, on the family farm near Cornlea to John A. Bender and Elsie Coldwell. He attended school at Platte County District School 42. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II from Jan. 15, 1943, to Nov. 9, 1945, with the rank of TEC-5 in the Northern Solomon Islands with the 726th Signal Aircraft Warning Unit.

On June 30, 1948, Bud and Delores Ann Schnitzler were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cornlea and together they shared a great love for family and farming. He had served on the board of directors of Lindsay Farmers Co-op and a member of the Lindsay American Legion Post. He enjoyed working with antique tractors and had a great love for horses, showing them in parades and community events.

Surviving are children, Richard Bender, Joan (Glen) Pfeifer, Larry (Sue) Bender and Alan (Deb) Bender, all of Lindsay, and Alice (Ken) Korus and Kathy (Greg) Korus, both of Monroe; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Alvin “Bones” (Boots) Bender of Cornlea; and sister, Miriam Lloyd of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores (died Feb. 21, 2000); son, Joseph; brother, Jake; and sister, Ethel Uchtman.
