Ellen Beulah Bufford Lambert, 90, of Blackwell, Oklahoma died Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home, Blackwell, Oklahoma. She was born September 11, 1915 in Labette County, Kansas to Jesse E. and Elsie (Ware) Westervelt.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2006, at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Pastor Kevin Bookout officiating.
Ellen was educated in Altamont, Kansas where she graduated from High School. Her
first job after school was working on a farm as a cream separator.
Ellen has done many things; kahki press operator at a Blackwell Laundry, Products Saleswoman, pie baker in Wichita School, caretaker of 25 children in Wichita while their mothers worked in the war effort during WWII.
She worked as a nurse's aide in the Blackwell Hospital and Tonkawa Nursing Home; being head cook at Alpha II in Tonkawa for four years, cook's helper at Northern Oklahoma College several years, also sewing for others.
She learned carpentry skills from her father, which served her well in remodeling her home in Tonkawa. She taught herself to crochet; crocheting rag rugs, sweaters, bedspreads and afghans for her family.
Ellen was also a great help in caring for others by getting them to their appointments and running errands for them. She attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Ellen is quoted by saying "I've had a hard life but a good life. I've experienced a lot and learned a lot."
She is survived by one son, Roland "Butch" Bufford, Jr. of Tonkawa, Oklahoma;
four daughters, Shirley Hansen and Ilene Epley both of Wichita, Kansas, Louise Byers of Tonkawa, Oklahoma and Cathy Pendleton of Blackwell, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four husbands, Harold Walker, Arthur White, Roland Bufford, Sr., and Gene Lambert; a sister Irene Richardson; a step-daughter Wilma Ruth Culivan and a grandson Jessie Hansen.
