Samuel Estil was the son of Winfield Scott Compton and Martha Ann Franklin. He married Mary Cooper Ellis. In 1910, he was a mason at the local rock quarry. In 1917, he was an engine supply man for the N & W Railroad Company at Bluestone Junction, WV. And in the 1920 Census, Samuel was listed as a helper in the N & W Railrod machine shop.


ESTILE S. COMPTON DIES AT RESIDENCE

Estile Samuel Compton, 63, died at his home on Chestnut Mt. at 3 a.m. Saturday morning. A former Norfolk and Western Railway machinist, Mr. Compton retired in 1949 and had lived in Pulaski, VA for the past year. His survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Ellis Compton of Pulaski; four sons, Alfred S. Compton of Newport News, Maynard Compton of Bluefield, W.Va., Ralph Compton of Pulaski, Blueford M. Compton of Princeton, W. Va.; three daughters, Mrs. Venoy Owens of Bluefield, W.Va., Mrs. Mary Argabright and Miss Nancy Compton of Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. James Neal of Bluefield, Va. and Mrs. Marie Lusk of Chicago; one brother, B.M. Compton of Yards, Va. and seven grandchildren. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield. The body will remain at Stevens Chapel until 10 a.m. Sunday when it will be removed to the Wagner Hawkins Funeral Home in Bluefield, Va.
