aka Carrie or Carolina she married 18 Nov 1858 to Archibald N Prewitt 1829–1864
This Marriage License and Certificate is from that marriage to her first husband, and on the back of said License (inset) is written 'The rites of Matrimony between A. N. Prewitt & Caroline Bunting were duly solemnized on the 18th of Nov 1858 by me Saml. Lambert
Minister'
This Marriage license dated 15th Nov 1858, and the certificate dated 3 days later as seen.
Archibald was the son of parents Mary Morrow (1808–1878) & Patrick Henry Prewitt (1800–1858) * Sadly According to family on the day of his death, he was in the neighborhood trying to visit family when he was spotted by the Union soldiers who chased him. His horse tripped jumping a fence and fell. The Union soldiers shot him in cold blood hence the tombstone inscription "murdered by the Yankees".
They had several children before his death not limited to...
Lillian Prewitt (1859 - 1887)
P M Prewitt (1862?) (Uncertain name 1870 Census)
Nona Prewitt (1863 - ca.1940) Fulton Georgia
Later after Archibald's death on 23 Dec 1873 she married William James Matthews MD in Hardeman County, Tennessee. He was himself a Civil War Veteran, and much more can be read about his very interesting life on his memorial.
They also had one child together Leta Bunting Matthews (1876 - 1891).
A very sincere thanks to for the images & family information and to Paul V. Isbell for creating the memorial in the first place.
