Memorial services for Janet Kay “Jan” (Burns) Swinney, 66 year-old Weatherford, Oklahoma resident, will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in “The Chapel” of Lockstone Funeral Home with Dennis King officiating.
Jan was born February 3, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Dennis F. and Hazel E. (Brannon) Burns and passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at her home in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
Jan was raised and attended school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and graduated from U.S. Grant High School in 1965. She was baptized at the age of 12 and was very active in the Reorganized Latter Day Saint Church in south Oklahoma City. She attended South Oklahoma City Junior College where she earned an Operating Room Technician/Scrub Tech Degree.
While in Oklahoma City she taught Sunday school, and was active in the youth group.
On May 12, 1967, Jan married Robert L. “Bob” Swinney in Oklahoma City. They moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1978. Jan worked at Southwestern Memorial Hospital for 8 ½ years, Dr. Aaron’s office, and was office manager for W-W Manufacturing for 3 years. Jan loved being a Master Gardener and loved her many Master Gardener friends.
Memorials contributions may be made to the Faith Hospice or American Cancer Society.
Survived by her husband of 46 years, Bob; daughters, Lorna D. Hudson and husband, Jim and Robin K. Brian and husband, David; son, Russell R. Swinney and wife, Kimberley; mother, Hazel Lane; sisters, Brenda J. Catozzi and husband, Rich and Sharon “Denise” Buettner; grandchildren, Zane David Brian, Ivy Elise Brian and James Robert “J.R.” Hudson.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Burns; son, Bruce Allen Swinney; and step-father, Don Lane.
