A. L. ASHMORE DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER IN OMAHA
Asa Lee Ashmore, 80, died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Graham in Omaha, where he had been visiting the last few weeks. His body arrived here Wednesday morning on No. 6 and funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Fessler & Sutphen Funeral Chapel here. The Rev. W. F. Clayburg, pastor of the local Methodist Church conducted the service and singing was by Mrs. L. W. Scott. Burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery.
Mr. Ashmore was born May 25, 1853, in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was united in marriage in 1883 to Miss Fanny Allen. To this union five children were born, S. C. Ashmore of Greenfield, Iowa, V. O. Ashmore of Grant, Mrs. Walter Graham of Omaha, and Austin LeRoy and Homer Vernon, both deceased.
Mrs. Ashmore died when the children were very small and the entire care of the children fell upon the father’s shoulders. He kept the family together against many odds until the reached adulthood.
Mr. Ashmore came to Villisca in 1893 and had made his home here continuously since, with the exception of a few years spent in Creston and the last few weeks in Omaha with his daughter. He united with the Methodist Church while living in Ohio and transferred his membership here when he moved to Villisca. Besides his three children, he leaves four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
