Mrs. Minnie Estelle Clevenger, 76, of the Union community, died Friday night at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Tom Cates, near Lawson. She had been ill for several years.
She was born in Knoxville, Nov. 16, 1870. Her parents, Andrew Arnote and Marovia(Burgess) Arnote, were native Missourians. She was married to William G. Clevenger, of Knoxville, Feb. 20, 1890. Her husband preceded her in death.
From 1893 until 1918 she and her husband homesteaded on the Cherokee Strip near Enid, OK. The Clevengers resided in a sod house during their stay in Oklahoma. In 1918 they returned to Ray County.
She was a member of the Christian Union Church.
One daughter preceded her in death.
Survivors include two brothers, Ralph Arnote of Kansas City; and Perry Arnote of Hennessey, OK; one sister, Mrs. Wyatt Sperry of Hennessey, OK; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted Monday at the Union Church by Rev. Wilbur Holman of Excelsior Springs. Burial was in the Union Cemetery, with Jarman-Prichard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
