Laura Jean Hood

Laura Jean Hood passed away unexpectedly on August 21st at Bay Memorial Hospital in Panama City, Florida, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Arabi, Georgia, on May 2, 1932. She is survived by her son Tommy Green and wife Vicky of Stuart, Florida; her daughter Lisa Ammerman and husband Boyd of Panama City, Florida; her step-daughter Debbie King of Trussville, Alabama; her six grandchildren, Mandy Ammerman Combs and husband Jason of Moundsville, West Virginia, Brandon Ammerman of Panama City, Florida, Brian Green of Stuart, Florida, Daniel Green of Orlando, Florida, Kelley King Knowles and husband Dustin of Moody, Alabama, and Kevin King and wife Heather of Springville, Alabama, and her six great-grandchildren; Wesley, Jocelyn and Mason Combs, Hunter and Tanner King, and Christopher Wallace, some cousins, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jean was loved by everyone who knew her. More than anything else, Jean wanted people to know that she had a deep faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and for them to know Him and love Him as she did. She was an active member of Hiland Park Baptist Church where she was a care group leader for the Ladies’ Sunshine Class. In addition, she was also a past member of Sand Hills Baptist Church where she served on the hospitality committee for many years. She loved taking care of people. She was known to be a nurturer and devoted care taker of her family members and friends during their times of greatest need. Though she had many talents, most would agree there was no better southern cook around. One of her greatest joys was seeing her family and friends gathered around her dinner table. She retired from Southern Bell in 1991 as a customer service supervisor. After retiring, Jean and her husband John enjoyed travelling and RV camping. They made many life-long friends at Fam-Camp, Tyndall Air Force Base.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Henry Hood, son Asa William Green both of Panama City, Florida, her parents Needham Thomas and Sarah Ellen Arnold of Sycamore, Georgia, and all eight of her brothers and sisters, Lula Mae Arnold Harvard, Thomas Arnold, Inez Arnold Crusoe, Mamie Arnold Abdullah, W.O. Arnold, J.L. Arnold, Preston Arnold, and Shirley Arnold Jones.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, at 1:00 pm followed by a 2:00 service at Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jean's grandsons, Brian Green, Danny Green, Kevin King, Jason Combs, Dustin Knowles, and Brandon Ammerman. Friends and family are encouraged to come to a time of fellowship at Hiland Park Baptist Church after the internment.
