John M. Hightower, 82, of Abilene passed away Sunday, July 30, 2006. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 1, 2006 from 6 - 7:30 PM at North's Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will be Wednesday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange St.

Mr. Hightower was born and raised in Bastrop, Louisiana on March 19, 1924 to John and Ola Mae Hightower, Sr. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1951 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 - 1946, in major theaters in WWII. He married Hilda L. Martin October 5, 1951 in Jena, Louisiana. They moved to Abilene in September, 1965. His employment involved timber, civil service, automotive, and entrepreneurship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. Hightower, Sr. and Ola Mae Bramlett, and one sister, Della Bailey.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda; three sons, David L. Hightower and wife, Carol of DeSoto, Texas, Mike Hightower of Abilene, and John M. Hightower, III and wife Virginia of Abilene; three brothers, Don, Wayne, and Mark Hightower of Bastrop, Louisiana; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
