LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2001, at a Mass of
Christian Burial in the St. Edmond Catholic Church for Hubert Simon, 71, who died at
5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Interment will be in the Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the services. The Rev. George Simon, pastor of St. Martin de Porres Church of Scott, and the Rev. Kenneth Buddendorff, S.J., Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House of Grand Coteau, will concelebrate. Jodi M. Bollich, organist, will sing for the funeral Mass, “J’irai la voir unjour,” “Amazing Grace,” “Old Rugged Cross,” “Ave Maria” and “Prayer of St. Francis.”

Survivors include his wife, Helen Bernard Simon of Lafayette; three daughters, Cynthia Dixon and spouse, David, of Lafayette, Brenda Veillon and spouse, Ronnie, of Abbeville and Sandra David of Youngsville; four grandchildren, Shannon Richard, Alex David, Andrew Dixon and Brady Castille; two brothers, Howard Simon and wife Tattie of Port Arthur,Texas, and Charles Simon of Orange Texas; two sisters, Anna Mae Landry of Kaplan and Verna Belle Duhon of Mauriceville, Texas, and three sisters-in-law, Enola Simon Broussard, Lucy Simon and Caroline Simon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Joseph Elton Simon, Robley Melvin Simon, Wilbert Simon and Daniel P. Simon.

A native of Vermilion Parish, Mr. Simon was a resident of Lafayette since 1949. He was the son of the Robert 0. Simon and the former Anaise Vallot, both natives of Vermilion Parish. A veteran of military service, Mr. Simon served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Simon had worked form PHI for eight years and retired from Moore Business Forms with 29 years of service.

Mr. Simon will be remembered most for his sense of humor and as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of the St. Edmond Catholic Community, 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3470 and 4th Degree member of Bishop Maurice Schexnayder Assembly.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the 5th floor oncology department staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Dr. John M. Rainey and Dr. James L. Cole and staff.

A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. today by the Rev. George Simon and at 1 p.m. Sunday by 4th Degree members of Bishop Maurice Schexnayder Assembly.

Visiting hours will be observed from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Sunday until time of the services.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Veillon, David Dixon, Andrew Dixon, Alex David, Monty Richard, Brady Castille and Jimmy Simon.

Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Bernard and members of The Faith Group, 4th Degree members of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3470 and 4th Degree member of Bishop Maurice Schexnayder Assembly.
