James Bloyd was a Civil War soldier and his obituary reads:
“James Bloyd, one of our highly respected farmers, died at his residence on the bluffs January 10, 1918, aged 82 years, 5 months, and 25 days.
The deceased was born near Waterloo on the Columbia road on July 25, 1833.
On March 22, 1860 he was married to Mrs. Ann Brandt, nee Livers. To this union were born Sam Bloyd on the home place, Mrs. Emma Chesney and Mrs. W. H. Miles. Another son died some time since.
The deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was careful and conscientious in all his dealings and enjoyed the good wishes and the respect of all.
The funeral was held Monday morning, the remains being interred in the family cemetery on the farm.”
