The following obituary appeared in the "Patriot-News" (Harrisburg, PA) on October 10, 2013:

Walter "Mike" Dunkle, 88, of Lower Paxton Twp. passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Hershey Medical Center.

Born March 26, 1925 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Florence (Keller) Dunkle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother George Dunkle and a sister Roberta Parthemore.

Mike was a graduate of the John Harris High School, class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the USS LCI 455 and USS LSM 441 in the South Pacific for 3 years.

He was married to Dorothy (Cornecelli) Dunkle.
Mike is survived by 2 sons; David Dunkle of Tucson, AZ and Douglas Dunkle & wife Patricia of Susquehanna Twp., his sister Fay Dunkle of Harrisburg, 2 grandchildren; Heather Lenker & husband Shane of Shermansdale and Andrew Stanukenas & wife Andrea of Georgia, 2 great grandchildren; and Katlynn and Alex Lenker of Shermansdale.

Mike retired from Harrisburg Wholesale Florist. He was a member of Charlton UMC for over 50 years and the Bible Challenge Class. He was also a member of the Chum 55+ Club and a member of the Post 272 American Legion and a former member of the 700 Bowling Club.

Memorial services for Mike will be held at the Charlton UMC, 592 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112 on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 3pm. A visitation will be held from 2-3pm. Rev. Dr. Les Towsey and Rev. Dan Caldwell will officiate.
