Kendell was born on Feb. 17, 1920 to George and Lucile Erskine in El Paso, Illinois. Ken married Wanda Stephens in 1955 and the two have shared over 60 years together.
Ken is also survived by three nieces, Karen Selvin, Erin (Bob) Boles and Ann (Scott) Hassell and a nephew, Leighton "Todd" Erskine;.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Wendell Scott Erskine; his daughter, Ellen Sue Erskine; his twin brother, Wendell Erskine (a Marine killed on Iwo Jima) and his brother, Robert Erskine.
He graduated from Danville High School in 1939 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from October 1941 to October 1945. He was a member of the 27th Infantry Division, Survey section, and participated in the invasions of Saipan, Eniwetok and Okinawa. Ken's letters home to his parents contained cartoon-like drawings of everyday life in the Army; not the horrors of the fighting, but what he saw as humorous.
Ken was employed as a draftsman with a number of local architects, the type of work he truly enjoyed.
