Stephen was the son of Joseph Cady and Sarah Davis of Killingly, Connecticut, and married in the north part of Killingly (now Putnam) 20 March 1723 Abigail LEE. Stephen was a mason, and spent the remainder of his life in Killingly. He bought some large tracts of land there, and was apparently prosperous. He and Abigail have no grave markers, but are almost certainly buried here in this cemetery where his father and his son Isaiah have tombstones. There are plans to eventually erect a cenotaph for him and his wife here. His children, all born in Killingly:

* Samuel, b. 28 Feb 1724, m. Elizabeth WINTER

* Martha, b. 14 Oct 1725, d. Providence, RI Sep 1815, and m. Elisha HOPKINS, b. Providence 29 May 1723, d. Providence 18 Nov 1798, the son of Elisha Hopkins and Mercy Wade. Elisha was a private and later a captain in the Revolutionary War. He was taken prisoner on Long Island, but later exchanged. Memorials have been created for this couple in Find-a-grave, but with unknown burial location.

* Mercy, b. 23 Aug 1729

* Isaiah, b. 22 Apr 1732, m. Mary NELSON.

* Jeremiah, bapt 18 May 1735, d. young.

* Sarah, b. 4 July 1737, d. Woodstock, CT 27 Oct 1818, m. Killingly 13 July 1758 Josiah CHAFFEE, b. 1 Sep 1731, d. Woodstock, CT 10 Oct 1802, son of Joseph Chaffee and Jemima Chadwick. They had nine children. The Chaffee genealogy says that Sarah was buried in Woodstock, but does not name the cemetery.

* Rhoda, b. 5 May 1739, m. as his second wife, James CHAFFEE.
