Dorothy Avis Matchie, 80, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at her home.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Benson Cemetery in Whitten, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

She was born in Whitten, Iowa on June 8, 1928, the daughter of William & Dorthea (Westman) Inman.

On August 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Francis Matchie in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2001.

When they were dating, Francis dug up a wild yellow rose for her, which she planted in her yard. That rose continued to produce beautiful wild yellow roses through 50 years of marriage.

In earlier years, she worked as a file clerk at Skyline Dodge in Denver, Colorado for six years and later at Party Pack Popcorn in Marshalltown, Iowa for three years at which time she retired. She enjoyed quilting and an occasional visit to the casino boats.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Tammy May of Rock Island, Illinois and her fiancé, Chris Carlson; her sons, Francis (Cindy) Matchie of Northglenn, Colorado and Richard (Jodi) Matchie of Middletown, California; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Maxine Eich of Marshalltown, Iowa and Mary Cox of Davenport; and many nieces & nephews.

In addition to her husband; her son Danny Matchie; her granddaughter Brenda Matchie; her brothers, Art, Billy, James Allen & LaVern Inman; and her parents preceded her in death.
