Roger grew up on Millard Road in North Attleboro and graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1961. Growing up he accumulated a small herd of milking cows and sold the milk. Later he and his father bought Sunset Acres Farm from the MacLean family on Draper Avenue, North Attleboro. There he continued dairy farming with over 100 cattle. He also ran his father's business, Holmes Restaurant Service, taking it over fully in 1980 when his father had passed away. He ran the business until he passed away.
Holmes Restaurant Service was sold in 1998. The farm remained in the family until sold in 2013.
