Joe Billy “J.B.” Burnam, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Rhine, GA to the late Joseph S. and Nettie Lee Harrell Burnam. He retired as a mechanic from Armstrong World Industries after 38 years of faithful service and was a proud member of the Local 461 Union. He also was owner and operator of Ruby’s Auction Barn for nearly 20 years and helped run other auctions all around the middle Georgia area. In his spare time he loved farming his vegetable garden as well as tending to his goats, chickens, and bee hives from which he generously gave away most of the honey. He was a U.S. Army veteran and also proud of the fact that at age 33 he went back and completed his G.E.D.
Joe was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Ruby Howell Burnam and a son Keith Burnam.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Florence Burnam of Lizella, five children; Brenda Burnam Hunnicutt (Wade) of Macon, Sue Burnam Bullington of Macon, Kenneth Burnam of Lizella, Rhonda Burnam Devane of Macon and Sandra Burnam of Lizella, nine grandchildren; Staci Powell (Jeremy) of Woodstock, Jessica Hunnicutt and Will Hunnicutt of Macon, Casey Bullington (Ashley) of Macon, Veronica Burnam of Barnesville, Ashley Cardwell (Alan) of Macon, Kyle Burnam (Janna) of Denver, CO, Megan Burnam and Kelsey Burnam of Lizella, ten great grandchildren and one brother, Wright Burnam of Macon.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 with Reverend Lee Griffin, Reverend Tim Price, and Reverend Micah Carr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made, in Joe's memory, to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 5455 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, Macon, GA 31216.
