Arlene R. Bortman, a lifelong resident of Lyons, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2008 at home. Visitation, Monday, June 16, from 3-8 p.m. at Tower Home for Funerals, 4007 Joliet Ave., Lyons. Mass on Tuesday, June 17, at St. Hugh's Church, 4315 S. Joliet Ave., Lyons, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. Mrs. Bortman was a homemaker. She attended Zion Lutheran Grammar School and was a graduate of Morton East. She was the past president of the Society of Catholic Women (SCW) and chairman of St. Hugh's (Xmas) Christmas Bazaar for many years. She was also a member of the Lyons Women's Auxillary: Emil Scheive American Legion. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. Mrs. Bortman is survived by her children, Bruce (Anne), Joan (Allen) Scheifelbein, Susan (Jim) Vopicka, Janice Epstein, Bryan, Steven (Rose) and Nancy (Michael) Romano; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Harold; and two sisters, the late Doris Niemand and the late Verdelle Witt. Memorials may be made to the or St. Hugh's Church.
