Doris E. Scholtz, age 94, of Watertown, SD passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at a Watertown care center. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Joe Forcelle as celebrant. Music was furnished by the Immaculate Conception Funeral Choir accompanied by Leanne Giessinger. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Visitation was held on Friday, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., with a CDA Rosary at 5:15 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel. Doris E. Scholtz was born on February 8, 1914 to Benjamin H. and Bertha B. (McLaughlin) Fuller in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She attended school in Nebraska until she moved with her family to Watertown where she finished school. After graduating from Watertown High School in 1932 Doris worked for Park and Recreation Department in Watertown and also for Singer Sewing Machine. On September 18, 1934 she married Leo J. Scholtz in Watertown, SD. The couple made their home in Watertown where they raised four children. During the 1970's and early 1980's, Doris went back to work for the Park and Recreation Department of Watertown in the Ceramic Department. Her husband, Leo passed away on April 15, 2004. Doris was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and St. Margaret Circle of Womans Sodality, Catholic Daughters of America, Tri-W Extension Club, Kampeska Chapter of Association of Retarded Children where she and Leo were some of the Cofounders of the organization; was active in Square Dancing and was a Brownie leader and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her son, James; her daughter, Sister Katherine Scholtz; and her great grandchild, Elizabeth Rose Hays. She is survived by her daughters, Nina E. Scholtz of Watertown, and Mary Jane (Don) Cantrell of Billings, MT; her sisters-in-law, Ruth E. Hunter of Watertown, and Betty (John) Stroble of Aqaba, Jordan; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
