Hershel was born in Monroe, Ohio, the son of the late Albert and Ella (Rhoads) Ferris. On January 6, 1946 he married Erma Jean Longerbone. She preceded him in death August 20, 1992. Hersehl retired from Bell Fibre, Marion, in 1983 after thirty seven years of service. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of American Legion #10 in Marion.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Kay (John) Renfro, Versailles, Ky.; sister, Mable Thurston, Richmond; grandchildren, Bryan E. Maxwell, Kenneth A. Maxwell, Raymond D. Renfro, and Kristi L. Redmon; great grandchildren, Devan A. Maxwell, Jackson H. Maxwell, and Paul D. Redmon III; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Annie Ferris and Ruth Andrew.
