Thelma (Wild) Underwood was born August 26, 1909 on a farm near Granite, Oklahoma to John H. and Ellen
(Dean) Wild. Her father and mother homesteaded on the farm in Greer County, Oklahoma in 1898. She
died March 28, 2006 in Mangum after an extended illness. She married Wesley (Tick) Underwood on
January 18, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1978 after forty eight wonderful years of marriage.

She was always an honor student and graduated from Lake Creek High School in three years and was
valedictorian of her class. She finished two years of college at Chickasha Women's College and was
awarded a teaching certificate after two years. After college she taught in the Lake Creek Schools and later
earned a Master's Degree in teaching at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

After teaching several years she moved to Willow where she taught and coached girls basketball. She left
the teaching profession to move with her husband to Eagle Nest, New Mexico where they operated a small
ranch.

Due to illness in the Underwood family she and Tick moved back to Oklahoma where Tick took over
management of the family farm. Thelma started a long and extended career as cashier of the Willow Bank
where she was a great service to the people of the community and made many friends.

In her youth, Thelma was saved and became a member of the Lake Creek Baptist Church and later the First
Baptist Church of Willow. After moving to Mangum she became a member of the Mangum First Baptist
Church.

She is survived by one brother, Dean Wild of Oklahoma City; one step-brother, Oluf Toole of Mangum and a
half-brother, Edwin Henry Wild of Ardmore. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two
