Elnora Euretta Hedges
Elnora Euretta Boswell Blatt Hedges was born the 11th child of Joseph and Elvira Boswell on October 10, 1889, near Davis City, in Decatur County and passed away June 19, 1986, at the Lamoni Manor, Lamoni, at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
Her father was a minister of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of which she was baptized a member as a child. Her father was often gone on missionary trips such as England and Wales and brought back tales of his experiences. It was with this foundation from her parents she learned the love for serving others and her church.
She was married to Ollie J. Blatt on January 10, 1909, and to this union were born three children: Ruby Felicia Blatt Cracraft and Floy Raymond Blatt, both who preceded her in death, and Nola Irene Blatt Dawson of 414 E. 8th, Lamoni.
Her parents and brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.
She was a busy homemaker, always with time to help others. She loved nature and taught her children and grandchildren a love for the great outdoors. She knew most of the varieties of trees, flowers and birds and also appreciated new books on nature.
She loved poetry and at the age of 96 years could still repeat word for word long poems she'd learned in grade school.
Elnora was married to William Oscar Hedges on January 28, 1928, and lived on his farm in the Evergreen area. She was an active member of the R.L.D.S. Evergreen branch there.
She moved into Lamoni after her husband's death in 1952. She then attended the Lamoni Congregation. She was also a member of the W.C.T.U. and a past member of the Mites Society.
Her family increased from three children to 96 members, the same number of her age in passing. Besides her daughter, Nola, she leaves two sons-in-law: Gerald Dawson of Lamoni and Nathaniel S. Cracraft of Independence, MO.
She will be very much missed by her 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren--and their husbands and wives; and by many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Because of her great love for poetry, we dedicate this poem in closing of what we feel she is saying to us today:
Please don't be sad today
For I'm not very far away.
I've lived a good long life
And now can rest from all my strife.
I hope the faith I've had through the years
Will strengthen you--Please don't shed any tears.
Remember today all the good times we've shared
And that for each of you I've really cared.
Thanks for sharing my life's Path along the way;
You've made many joys for me day by day.
During my many illnesses,
your care has meant so much, too;
Without you and people at Lamoni Manor,
I wouldn't have known what to do.
So I say farewell to each of you.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. June 23, 1986, at the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church with Elders Bill Ballantyne and Darrell Day officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni. Arrangements were made through the Lamoni Funeral Home.
