Norman Harold Cate, Sr. , son of the late Robert Wesley & Elsie Anetha Johnson Cate, born in Aquilla, Missouri on September 7, 1931, passed away at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virgina on August 13, 2015, at the age of 83 years.
Mr. Cate was a long-time resident of Bloomfield, MO. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1968. While in the Air Force, he received the U. S. Air Force Commendation Medal. After his service in the military, he and his family returned to Bloomfield where he lived during most of his retirement. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. Mr. Cate, his son Harold and daughter Cindy formed a country group called "The Crowley Ridge Runners" and were featured on the Jerry Lewis' Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon and the morning Breakfast Show on the KFVS television station in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mr. Cate also enjoyed riding horses and playing music with friends. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Norman is survived by his wife, Ruby J. Moss Cate of Shepherdstown, WV (formerly of Bloomfield) to whom he was married 68 years; children & spouses, Linda S. & Louie T., Jr. "Tom" Sanders of Shepherdstown, WV, Cindy L. & Stephen R. Noble of, Chantilly, VA; five grandchildren (Charity, Sean, Catie, Brittany, Kaylee) and six great-grandchildren (Matthew, Joseph, Daniel, Michael, Madison, Noah). He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Lavelle, Raymond, Eursel) and three sisters (Wandalee, Vivian, Grace) and his son Norman H., Jr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 17, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Chiles-Cooper Home in Bloomfield. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funera Home in Bloomfield with Bro. Kenneth Gaines of Bloomfield officiating.
Interment will follow in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors, Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
