Funeral services for Jakie "Jake" Howard, 79 of Kenna, will be at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday August 15, 2015, at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Vaughn Goffman officiating. Burial will follow at Kenna Cemetery with Shae Pettigrew, Kerry Osburn, Brad Mauldin, Cody Hintz, Jacob Loewen, Ben Loewen, and Mark Sena as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers for Jake will be the Elida and Portales EMT's, the Staff of Roosevelt General Hospital, the Staff of Interim Hospice, and the Saturday Night Senior Group. J
Jake was born on September 11, 1935, in Plains, TX to Albert Milton Howard and Ruby Ophelia Hock and passed away on August 13, 2015, at his home in Kenna. Until five years of age Jake lived in Plains, then his parents moved south of Elida and started a ranch. He attended school in Elida and graduated from Elida High School in 1953. While in school he played music with Maurene and they were married on November 24, 1953, in Ft. Sumner. He worked for the U Bar Ranch for nine years. He then bought a drilling rig and started a water well drilling business and was also a Brand inspector for 27 years. He began ranching in 1979 and ranched for the rest of his life. He will always be remembered with Maurene playing music for weddings, funerals, parties etc.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Jason Howard; his brother, James Howard; his sisters, Dixie Skipworth and Ernestine Helms.
He is survived by his wife, Maurene Howard of the home; his sons, Monte Howard of Rogers, Dan Howard and wife Betty of Elida, Kim Howard and wife Jeanie of Texico; his daughters, Ann Pettigrew and husband Kit of Dora and Charla Howard of Elida.; and one sister, Elois Creighton of Elida also survives him. Seven grandchildren also survive him, Meghen, Krysten, Kimberly, Shae, D'Shawn, Brad and Mindy and 10 great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
