Laclede Blade, August 18, 1906: Miss Maggie, daughter of A. H. Alexander, a prominent farmer in the northwest part of the county, committed suicide Wednesday by taking carbolic acid. She disappeared from home Tuesday night and the next morning her lifeless body was found on a quilt under an apple tree about a hundred yards from the house. Disappointment in a love affair is said to have been the cause.
