CHAS. HATFIELD TAKEN BY DEATH

Passes Away at Home of Daughter Here----Funeral Thursday

Charles Hatfield, 81, died at 10:40 Monday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Oscar Gibson, 424 First Street, following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Hathaway Funeral Home, with burial at Garland Brook Cemetery.

The casket will be open this evening at the funeral home where friends may call until time of the services.

Besides the daughter at whose home he died, surviving are five other children, Mrs. Bessie Hayden of East Columbus, Mrs. Lloyd Armstrong of this city, and George, Ed, and Earl Hatfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. (Rockwell) Hayden, who died March 7, 1912, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; daughters, Alma Alice (Hatfield) Rothhaas, who died May 30, 1945, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; Linnie Bell (Hatfield) Stevens, who died August 16, 1926, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; and sons, Everett Hatfield, who died October 30, 1900, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; and Lawrence Hatfield, who died January 12, 1912, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana.

NOTE:

Charles was the son of Sarah Cochran, and not sure of who his father was. Charles Hatfield and Martha E. Rockwell were married September 12, 1890, in Bartholomew County, Indiana. To this union they had 10 children:

1. Bessie Mae Hatfield: b. April 27, 1890, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; d. November 10, 1964, in Seymour, Jackson County, Indiana; Married Harley Archibald Hayden on October 11, 1905, in Bartholomew County, Indiana
2. George R. Hatfield: b. February 11, 1893, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; d. January 8, 1952, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; Married Mary Estella Stader on August 28, 1915, in Bartholomew County, Indiana.
3. Alma Alice Hatfield: b. February 5, 1895, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; d. May 30, 1945, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; Married Thomas Rothhaas on May 13, 1937.
4. James Edward Hatfield: b. December 31, 1897, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; d. August 25, 1959, in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana; Married Ida Jeannette Piper on August 19, 1922, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana
5. Linnie Bell Hatfield: b. May 6, 1899, in Bartholomew County, Indiana; d. August 16, 1926, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; Married Claude Earnest Stevens on October 9, 1916, in Clark County, Indiana
6. Everett Hatfield: b. September 26, 1900, in Indiana; d. October 30, 1900, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana
7. Earl Adam Hatfield: b. April 4, 1903, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; d. July 26, 1971, in Columbus, Bartholomew County, Indiana; Married Mary Louise Whitehead on June 30, 1923, in Bartholomew County, Indiana
