Leonard E. Beekman, 93, of Sycamore, died at 10:33 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at his home.

He was born March 1, 1921, in Latham, to Charles and Anna (Gragg) Beekman. He married Editha (Leeth) Feb. 18, 1939, and she died May 8, 1982.

He is survived by a daughter, Candace Helms of Fostoria; two grandchildren, Crystal Smith of Upper Sandusky and Kelly Beekman of Fostoria; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Lear of Upper Sandusky and Candy Easter and Malik Slaughter, both of Fostoria; special friend, Millie Frey and her extended family, Sue Stander, Patty and Dave Mowery and Dan and Tom Frey; and loving nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors.

He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Smith; two brothers, Vessie "Nute" Beekman and Dale Beekman; five sisters, Elsie Hart, Eva Jean Hart, Esther Roosa, Versie Rawlins

and Hazel Burgett; and his wife and parents.

He was a retired set-up and die repairman at the former Hayes-Albion, Tiffin, and also drove truck for the former Wilson Sand and Gravel Plant, Upper Sandusky.

He was a member of Sycamore American Legion Post No. 250, AMVETS No. 777, Upper Sandusky, Moose Lodge No. 1093, Upper Sandusky, Eagles Lodge No. 2184, Upper Sandusky and DAV No. 34, Tiffin. He also was a member of the Carey Conservation Club and the American Bowling Association.

He loved to go hunting and fishing and loved to bowl. He at one time was a member of the Tuesday Morning Wyandot Risers and the Friday Night Mens League at Wyandot Lanes, Upper Sandusky, plus bowled in the Tuesday Night Classic League at Bowlmor Lanes, Sycamore.

He also was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, 301 W. Saffel Ave., Sycamore, with Pastor Jackie Underhill officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, where the Sycamore American Legion Post will conduct a military graveside service.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
