Benjamin Garfield (Ben) Walton, 79, of Rising Sun, Ind., passed away at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, Ind.

Ben was born in Aurora, Ind., Feb. 23, 1931, a son of the late Nettie Mae (Leasure) and Benjamin Garfield Walton, Sr. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Airman 1st Class and was a flight instructor for four years. He was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ, Rising Sun American Legion, Rising Sun American Legion Color Guard, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, former Member of Ohio County Park Board and Ohio County Veterans Officer. He was employed as an electrician at Monsanto in Cincinnati, Ohio, retiring in September 1993. On Dec. 24, 1952, at the Rising Sun Methodist Church he married Lorraine (Ballard) Walton who survives him.

In addition to his wife Lorraine, Ben is survived by a daughter, Saundra Stanley and husband Kenny of Rising Sun, Ind.; two sons Steve Walton and wife Debbie of Rising Sun, Ind., and Gene Walton and wife Lisa of Rising Sun, Ind.

He is also survived by a grandson; five granddaughters, and seven great-grandchildren.

Ben was preceded by three sisters, Thelma O'Neal, Esther Marie Kilgore and Judy Barton

Funeral service will be at at Markland Funeral Home, Rising Sun, Ind., at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, with Br. Greg Matthew and Eldon Fancher officiating. Friends are invited to call Thursday, Feb. 24, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Markland Funeral Home. Masonic Service 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment at Rising Sun New Cemetery with military graveside services by the Rising Sun American Legion Color Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rising Sun American Legion or Rising Sun Church of Christ or Michael Hayes Scholarship Fund.
