William I. Kilmer Sr. passed peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015. He was 84.

William was a longtime resident of Souderton and Doylestown, and was active in both communities as a business owner and devoted church practitioner.

Born in West Rockhill Township, Pa., he was the son of Grover and Florence Hart Kilmer. William spent his childhood in Colmar, Pa. and moved to Baltimore, Md. with his parents when he was a teenager.

He spent time working for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore as an apprentice carpenter before joining the U.S. Army.

William served in the Korean War, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for achievement during his service. He always marched proudly in the Doylestown Memorial Day Parade.

As an adult, he moved to Doylestown to work as a mechanic and raise his family. He founded K & K Truck Service, which he owned and operated for over 25 years. Upon retiring, he worked as a school bus driver for Central Bucks School District.

William was preceded in death by his wife, Pernie Lee Kilmer, and by a son, Thomas Kilmer.

He is survived by his children, William I. Kilmer Jr. and his wife, Lori, and Patricia Kilmer Bowman and her husband, David; his grandchildren, Jessica Bowman, Sara Kilmer Hageman and her husband, Steven, Heather Kilmer, Teresa Kilmer and her husband, Alexander Konieczny, David Bowman Jr., Matthew Kilmer, and Diana Kilmer. William is also survived by two great grandsons, Michael and Payton Hageman.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service in William's honor at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Zwingi United Church of Christ, 350 Wile Ave., Souderton, Pa. Interment will be held privately.
