John Raymond Wright, age 88, a resident of Oliver Springs, died on August 12, 2015 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Wright was born on the 25th day of February, 1927 in the Dyllis Community of Roane County. He was a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs.

John served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War receiving several medals, citations, and decorations including the United Nations National Defense Medal.

He retired from the Tennessee Department of Correction as a correctional officer where he primarily worked at Brushy Mountain Prison.

He is survived, by his daughters; Shirley Wright and husband Bill of Kingston and Deborah Roche of Maryville, by a son, John Michael Wright and wife Tammy of Louisville, TN by grandchildren; Brooke Wood and husband, Daniel, Brianna Roche and Mckenna Wright and by 3 great-granchildren; Shayla, Kylie, and Makenzie Wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Dewey Wright and Irene Goins Wright, by his wife, Earlee Lou Wright; by a brother, Alvin Wright and by sisters; Edna Justice, Mary Jo Hartbarger and Cora Myrtle Wright.

He is also survived by three brothers; Grover Wright and wife Brenda of Morristown, Tommy Wright and wife Linda of Dyllis and Ronnie Wright and wife Brenda of Dyllis, by sisters; Helen Nation of Oliver Springs, Dorothy Jackson and husband Ferrell of Coalfield and Kay Colamarino of Douglasville, GA.

He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, August 15, 2015 between the hours of 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Larry Noe officiating. Burial will follow at the Dyllis Cemetery.
