Doris Ann Slaymaker, 78, of Warsaw, passed away at her home at 12:20 am on August 12.
She was born November 1, 1936 in Kosciusko County to Eugene and Anna Mae (Evans) Beigh, who precede her in death.
She was a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1955. She attended Manchester College where she earned her Associates Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a Preschool teacher at Little People School for many years. She also worked as a Creative Galleries consultant.
She was a proud member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was the Kosciusko County Home Extension President from 1987-1988 and 1981-1982. She was involved in Kiwanis International where she served as president and secretary. She was a Girl Scout Day Camp Director, served as vice president for the Indiana Lakeland Girl Scout Council, and was a canoeing instructor. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, Heart Association, and was a 4-H leader in Kosciusko County. She was the county’s first director of Volunteer Community Services. In 1990 she was nominated Times Union-WRSW “Woman of the Year”, with Greater Area Warsaw Chamber of Commerce. She lived in Sun City, California for 14 years. While there, she served as the United Methodist Women District secretary. She also took part in the Grandparent Fostering Tutoring Program.
Surviving are two sons, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta Slaymaker, and a brother, Bill Beigh.
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Doris Ann Slaymaker on Saturday, August 29 at noon at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw. This will be a potluck celebration. The family requests that you bring a dish and your favorite memories to share. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.
