He was born in Trenton, NJ where he attended St. Francis Grammar School and Cathedral High School. He served in the US Army during WW II where he was a scout and rifleman with the 69th Infantry Division. He was in combat battles in North Africa and Italy and was captured in the Battle of Anzio. He was a prisoner of war in Germany where he was used as an interpreter when the Nazis discovered his ability to understand and speak German. He was awarded many service medals including three Bronze Stars. Prior to his service he was employed by Acme Rubber Co. and later retired from Fairless Steel in Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Helen Bell McGarity and stepfather to Helen Horvath. He was a gentle man and a gentleman.
